Brief

One of the most respected estates in Tuscany, San Giusto a Rentennano is owned and run by the Martini di Cigala family. While being some of the nicest and most humble people you will come across, brothers Luca and Francesco nevertheless possess serious commitment and painstaking dedication to the work in the vineyard and in the quality of their wines. Like all great estates, the wines have an authentic but unique style. Located in the warmer southern reaches of the Chianti Classico zone, the wines always showcase quintessential Sangiovese characteristics of floral, mineral and bright red cherry notes, always with healthy heaps of acidity.

Why We Love Them

The quality across their entire range is outstanding, with the ubiquitous Chianti Classico and Le Baroncole Riserva, all with great typicity in their make-up - almost all Sangiovese with a small percentage of the traditional blending partner Canaiolo. Then the heavyweights: The flagship ‘Percarlo’ is one of Tuscany’s iconic Sangiovese bottlings, well-known for its ageing capability of 15-20 years in good vintages, while the ‘La Ricolma’ Merlot is one of the most sought after wines in Merlot-mad Tuscany - a Merlot by name but with a gritty, stern Tuscan character written all over it. Then there’s the Vin San Giusto, a vin santo for all intents and purposes, that is truly astounding for its intense, viscous and extremely concentrated style.
